The Initial Signs of Sodpops - Album Cover

Airbrush Acrylic and Marker pen on Acrylic sheet.450mm x 450mm
Way back in 2001, I released a solo noise/experimental EP called The Initial Signs of Sodpops.
It featured four tracks, each quite different from the others.

The cover—like most of my art at the time—was drawn on whatever material I could get my hands on. This one was painted on a 5mm sheet of acrylic, with the original masking paper still attached. You can see part of the masking peeling up on the mid-left.

The painting still exists, though it's pretty worn now after suffering some water damage.

House of Normal Update

House of Normal Update

Hello everyone, and thank you to all who’ve signed up for a free account or are able to support us financially. Your encouragement keeps me motivated and helps fund our future creative projects.

I wanted to give you a bit of an update on how things are going, and what we’re planning next.

It’s been a pretty challenging process getting everything set up — the main website, this Fourthwall site, and all the socials — but now that it's all live and functioning, I’m happy with how it looks and works. That means it’s finally time to shift focus and start producing more creative content.

I’m currently supported by the Australian Government’s Small Business Assistance program, which has been incredibly helpful. That support ends in October, though, so I’m using the next three months to build momentum and set things in motion for the long term.

Until now, I’ve been working on art, animation, and game design with the aim of landing freelance contracts. But after months of refining what I actually want to do, I’ve realised I’d much rather focus full-time on personal projects — making regular animations, digital and traditional artworks, and building a community around our creative life.

Along the way, we also realised as a family that it’s not just about art. Our day-to-day life is filled with creative pursuits, and we’ve been slowly working toward something bigger for the past 10 years.

After a lot of testing, tweaking, and a few returns to the drawing board, we’re excited to say that House of Normal is now officially built around three main pillars:

  1. Creative Projects — Art, animation, illustration, craft, and game development (board games, card games, video games — even Suki has made her own board game!)

  2. Gaming & Entertainment — Minecraft SMP, family gaming, and wholesome fun

  3. Microfarming & Lifestyle — Home-grown food, local living, and a slower, more intentional way of life

This reflects how we actually live, and by sharing it, we hope to show others that this kind of lifestyle is not only possible — it’s rewarding.

To support this, we’ve relaunched our YouTube channel and started streaming regularly again. We’re now live three times a week, each stream aligned with one of our pillars:

  • Monday – Gaming

  • Wednesday – Art & Creative

  • Friday – Lifestyle & Homegrown living
All streams are family-friendly and PG-rated.

We’re also uploading three YouTube videos each week, following a 3-week rotating schedule:

  • Mondays – One long video

  • Wednesdays and Fridays – Two themed Shorts

Weekly Focus:

  • Week 1 – Gaming

  • Week 2 – Lifestyle

  • Week 3 – Art / Creative
    (Then it loops again.)

As part of this, all videos will be uploaded here on TheSketchbook.house, too.
Due to Fourthwall’s policies, posted videos are only visible to paid members — but I’ve made them available to all tiers, so you’ll always be able to watch them ad-free.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll also be uploading some of the older YouTube content to this site, so everything lives in one place. These will be organised into video series for easier browsing.

Once again, thank you so much for your support.

Now it’s time to climb the next mountain.

— Damien, Rosanna & Suki

Totem - Stimpy on acid

Originally drawn on paper in the sketchbook, scanned, linework and colour in clip studio. I had huge issues with selecting a colour palette and tried many versions however I ended up grabbing a palette from Stimpy, (Ren and Stimpy) which in the end. made this look like Stimpy on an acid trip.

Water Colour Experiment 002

Water colour experiment 2. 23/12/2023 Water colour paint and Polychromos pencils on 300gsm water colour paper. I tried soaking the paper and adding paint to see how I could manipulate the runs. Then just went to town with the pencil. Again. Ended up kind of a sea creature?

Baller Worm - Aqua

2023 - Watercolour paint and Polychromos pencil on 300gsm watercolour paper. A4.
This  was the first test of new Water colour paint in tubes. I'd never used it before and always believed that watercolour was all pastel shades and not very opaque. However this paint in tubes with minimal dilution works really well. Although it's probably the wrong way to use it.
The harder lines and detail using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. (which i've fallen in love with despite the price tag)

Death 1998 (ish)

Death 1998 Airbrushed acrylic on Concrete.
This has to be around 1998. I was living at a friend's house who let me paint some of the walls. This was based on an art piece on a postcard. Enlarged by hand as I didn't have a projector at the time. The intention was to have the rest of the wall black however I'm not sure it ever happened.
The darkened photo is there to show the linework.

Ocy Skateboard Design

Originally drawn on paper, scanned and then coloured and line work in Clip Studio Paint. I love designing skateboards. Mainly inspired by the decks from the 80s. which had artwork so stunning you wanted to collect the decks as art pieces. I still have original Tony Hawk T Shirt artwork, the shirt has perished however the screen print still exists.
