My work
I’m Damien — a multidisciplinary artist and animator based in Samford Valley, just outside Brisbane, Australia. I work across traditional and digital media, traditional paintings, short animations, and game visuals.
My traditional art draws on the textures and forms of nature — the root systems of Queensland strangler figs, twisted branches, and organic structures — blended with surreal sci-fi influences and whatever idea pops into my head at the time. Digitally, I’m inspired by early skateboard graphics from the ’80s and the pixel art of the Commodore 64 and Amiga era.
I paint with acrylics, watercolour, ink, airbrush, pencil, and digital tools — whatever feels right for the idea. I like experimenting. Sometimes things turn out great, sometimes they don’t, and that’s fine. For me, creating is as much about the process as the final piece.
I’ve worked in sign fabrication, film post-production, animation, photography, and AV, but the thread has always been the same: I like making things and following ideas. A “normal” life never quite fit. I’d rather keep learning, creating, and seeing where curiosity leads.
I’ve always had an overwhelming compulsion to make stuff — it’s how I stay grounded, and connected. House of Normal is simply the space where all of that comes together.
